did obama get his "glow" back?

today i listened to barack obama's "redemption" speech along with the rest of the free world.  if you want a transcript, you can get it here.  and after mulling on it for a bit, i have a few random thoughts:

the more we learn about him, the more obama seems to be a rather opportunistic politician, impressively smart and disciplined, who has put together a good political career and a terrific presidential campaign.  but as i've been saying for a while now, there's not much "audacity of hope" there.  this is however calculating ambition coupled with hubris that attempts at great length to convince our nation that this campaign and this candidate are "different."

today's speech gave a good analysis of race relations and injustices from a broad perspective but obama simply failed to take responsibility for having an apparently close twenty-year relationship with a racist, anti-american pastor to whom hateful rhetoric from the pulpit appears second nature.  obama seemed to claim in his speech that rev. wright's words were only sentiments of an earlier generation -- one that lived precariously through the civil rights era.  if that were true why were there so many young people in all those clips whooping and clapping their approval during rev. wrights' rants?

isn’t obama's platform one of taking responsibility to the next generation, to end that kind of rhetoric?  if obama is a change agent and the candidate who wants to move us all beyond racism to a "one america," shouldn’t he have spoken out at his own church about rejecting the bitterness and racism of the past?

as obama lectured the nation today on race relations, how responsible or courageous was it of obama to remain silent for 20 years in his own community while this kind of hateful rhetoric was preached week after week to generation after generation including his own little children?  he doesn't glow for me.

1 - I appreciate your analysis. I think that Barack Obama is charismatic and can give a terrific speech but I sat there and grew more and more irritated at him personally for not taking a stand against racism and hatred in his own church and his own community first before trying to take it to the whole country. I see you are a Republican. That's ok you still have a nice blog. haha. I will say after this speech I will vote for Hillary if I get the chance and if not McCain. Obama spoke out of both sides of his mouth today.

2 - Hello. I understand what you are sayign but don't agree. I think that Obama has alot of hope for our country and can bridge the racism gap because he is part black and white. Also he can't be responsible for his pastor. The pastor is speaking from God. Maybe the pastor is trying to test his congregation or something. I am not sure because I am agnostic. I am not sure if there is a God so all of this is moot to me. I see you have strong opinions because you have Christianity. Maybe Obama does too.

3 - Anonymous Obama lied to all of us. He has not changed up his story for political convenience. If he is caught now lying how many more times will he/has he lied to us all? He wants to be the candidate of hope, change, and yes we can but man he isn't honest! Zoey has a good point when she says that he sat quiet like for 20 years when all this race bashing and america bashing was going on right in his church! That is wrong to me and eliminates him as far as I am concerned for my vote.

4 - hey there camden. thanks for visiting my blog :D you are right about the pastor being responsible for his own actions/words. i agree. and obama is responsible for his actions (or inactions) in NOT leaving the church when things got ugly from the pulpit. when rev wright became abusive from the pulpit i dont believe he was speaking from God. God tells us in the Bible that "He (God) so LOVED the world that he gave his only son" God doesn't just love whites or the blacks but all of us. you and me. i appreciate you noticing the christian stuff on my blog. if you get a chance investigate more! and please come back to blatherings again. (Comment this)
