a renaissance man and a faithful friend

William F. Buckley, Jr. was a man of intellectual brilliance, entertaining wit and personal charm, and an amazing vocabulary.  but he will always be remembered first as the founder of the modern American conservative movement. he conceived it, nurtured it, grew it, and, when needed, skewered it.  today the conservative movement in America is broad, strong, and vibrant—we all owe so much to the great man who began and guided it for so long.

"I am, I fully grant, a phenomenon, but not because of any speed in composition," he wrote in The New York Times Book Review in 1986. "I asked myself the other day, `Who else, on so many issues, has been so right so much of the time?' I couldn't think of anyone."

he will be sorely missed.

freedom's dance party!

alt : http://www.reuters.com/resources/flash/includevideo.swf?edition=US&videoId=76613
isn't this fun?  it's great to have a president, though so attacked here at home, that can have such fun a continent away.   just one of the many reasons i like president bush!

in places where freedom is taken for granted, our president and our troops are not received with joy.  but in places like africa where liberty is still longed for and prized, the story is really quite different.  people who have lived under the jackboot of tyranny do not see a swaggering cowboy, a frat boy, a stutterer, a war monger... rather they see someone very different.  a stalwart defender of freedoms.  and they dance.  and he dances with them.

and just because its friday...

here's one of my favorite pics of 43 just because i know the looney left wingers hate it so.  :P

oh lovely.  another "incredible" vid...  yikes.

kennedy esta loca en la cabeza!

running for messiah-in-chief

when you're running for messiah-in-chief, it's not an easy time for anyone in the family.  while "barack-star" is the 'iphone of politics', michelle - his wife - well, not so much.

this week in milwaukee, she said:  “For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country, and not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change.”

video of michelle obama's remarks in some context can be found here.

so help me out... only her husband’s run for president has made her proud of America?

*coughnarcissisticcough*

this woman is 44 years old so not winning the cold war and tearing down 'that' wall made her proud of America?  not the fact that this country feeds and defends the entire world?  not the fact that each time a national election is held here a regular and orderly transition of power is conducted?  not that we lead the world in science and technology research?  not the fact that we help out generously everywhere in the world when disasters occur?  not that this country elected it's first black president, bill clinton, in 1992? (hehe)  and not even the heroes of 9/11 made her proud of America?

*coughselfabsorbedcough*

ok let me try again... how about the fact that both she and her husband, both raised in middle class educated homes, had ivy league educations at princeton and harvard?  what about the fact that they have had extremely lucrative careers as attorneys affording them the luxury of living in a beautiful home in the 'burbs and sending those adorable daughters to private school?

nothing has made michelle obama proud of her country in her entire adult life???  how sad and how incredibly ungrateful.  and you want to be our first lady?  oy.  next step for the bride of messiah is a "clarification tour" i suppose.

this couple is creepy.

UPDATE:  here is an interesting article regarding Michelle Obama's background and upbringing... not quite the sharecropper's daughter she would have one to believe on the stump.

el presidente no mas!

did you hear the great news that fidel castro is no longer going to be el presidente of Cuba? how courteous of him to resign after a bloody revolucion 49 years ago.  frankly his person has been m.i.a. for about 1 1/2 years now.  all the media have shown of him is this zombie-like figure moving his arms around to prove there is still breath in him  -- the living dead so to speak.  in his honor, Val Prieto at Babalu Blog posted the perfect symbol of his presidency, the "castro zombie doll" and of course i added one of my favorite zombie pics for effect!

too bad his communistic blood sucking policies are still in place through his "younger" brother Raul, age 76.

for the sake of the unborn

please check out my new pro-life youtube clip over there -------->

this election, i am all about the appointment of conservative judges.  considering our limited candidate choices, this is our best chance to save the babies so vote even if you have to hold your nose like me.

by the way this vid is floating around the internet.  it shows bill clinton on the stump in Ohio for hillary.  when he is confronted by pro-lifer's during his speech, he once again gets all red faced and loses his cool.  listen to this....

there was a time when clinton shouted down his hecklers and it made him seem "passionate".  that time has long since past.

the cult of obama

"we are the ones we've been waiting for".   (screams, tears, applause)  "we are the change that we seek".

yikes.

barack obama said that to a crowd of about 25,000 frenzied supporters recently.  he also said "we are the hope for the future and we can remake this world as it should be".

believe in me and i will not only redeem you but your country as well -- ok so he didn't say that but his speeches, campaign rallies, and public appearances almost feel like massive religious services with an undercurrent of a messianic cult that frankly, is just a wee bit creepy.

his followers are dazzled and messmerized though they can't name one legislative accomplishment he has had in his 2 (yes, just 2) years in the US senate.  even jake tapper of ABC news has dubbed his supporters "obama worshippers"!

his campaign seems to be all about how wonderful he is and his beautiful promises of a hopeful future.  based on what senator?  you have no paper trail of success - no concrete accomplishments in governance.  you simply talk pretty and your last name isn't clinton.  many democrats are hopeful that this spread of "obama worship" will continue though election day and into his inauguration.  i suspect he can maintain the "obama spell" until then and after that the awakening.  and it will be a great one.

UPDATE:  ok so it had to happen.  check out this blog    http://obamamessiah.blogspot.com/

where is my waterboard?

see these guys?  TERRORISTS including the mastermind of 9/11 (the stupid-looking hairy one in the bottom L corner).

currently they are being held at Gitmo and are being charged by the Pentagon with murder and war crimes in connection with everything that happened on Sept. 11th.  their's will be the first trials under the "terrorism-era" military tribunal system.  the military is recommending that they be tried together and they are seeking the death penalty.  the original rules for these tribunals were considered "mean and cruel" (no appeals, statements under torture allowed, behind closed doors) by many liberals and human-shield types in our country who screamed loudly and sued mightily.

after review, the SCOTUS struck the original tribunal plan down in '06 and congress - yes congress - gave the Pentagon new guidelines for the tribunals, including new rights to the terrorists.

the terrorists now get the same rights as us soldiers tried under the military justice system including the right to remain silent, call witnesses, and know the evidence against them. their appeals can go all the way to the SCOTUS.

officials plan to hold the trial in a specially constructed court at Gitmo that will allow lawyers, journalists and some others to be present, but leave relatives of Sept. 11 victims and others to watch the trial through closed-circuit broadcasts.

be prepared for months and months of loud outcries by the international community because we are seeking the death penalty on these creeps.  also be prepared to hear more grumbles on the fact that some of these guys were waterboarded and "coerced".

unbelievable.

at the risk of being unkind, lets just give them the plan of salvation and then kill them.

my grand old party

romney withdrew from the gop presidential race today.  giving a pretty terrific speech at CPAC, he finally became a conservative.  his speech was energetic, compelling and emotional -- setting a solid conservative tone that was lacking on the stump.  in many ways, his withdrawal from the race - so as not to be a "spoiler" like huckabee - propels him to a higher stature within the conservative movement and the gop in general.

good job romney.  and i wasn't even a fan.

so now it really is a mccain nomination.  **sigh**

mccain's speech at CPAC was good but not as uplifting as romney's.  he does deserve a wee bit of credit for even showing up this year -- knowing how most conservatives feel about him.  his speech included a clear acknowledgement of his need and desire for conservative support to win in november (duh) as well as an understanding of our agreements and disagreements with him over the last decade.

i think, however, he needs to do alot more in the next few months then just say those well placed words once to a conservative audience.

senator?  i need assurances.  assurances on tax reform.  assurances on immigration.  assurances on conservative judge appointments.  assurances on your commitment to conservative principles in the selection of a seriously conservative VP running mate who will help unite us.  and finally, assurances that you will not "lecture and scold" the most vital and significant voting block in the gop.

so i am listening and watching.   and for the sake of the troops and the unborn, today i support mccain.

mccain & romney

super tuesday.  is this man really going to be our candidate?

rudy, who has endorsed mccain since pulling out of the race, said this yesterday...

“No matter what happens with us, we all need to make sure it’s not him.”

that "him" of course is romney.  and though all of the (R) candidates have tried very hard to wear the reagan mantle (some better than others), they seem to have forgotten his 11th commandment -- "thou shalt not criticize other republicans".  with one voice they seem to all (except fred who has not endorsed anyone as of yet) dislike romney very much.  you would think they would put their collective energies in defeating hillary and obama.

stand tall.  hold your nose.  vote.

tripping over their own cool-ness

so did you watch the (D) debate last night?  a few observations...

first, the odd lovefest between obama and hillary...  i guess after these last few weeks of barfights between those two, i find that much affection and care-giving just a wee bit fake.  the hugs, the whispers in the ear, the secret smiles, the pulling out her chair... are they dating?

i counted 6 majorly loud cackles from hillary and scads of little ones.

the debate venue was a statement in itself.  it was at the huge Kodak Theatre in hollywood where the oscars are held each year -- the big gold guys standing guard at the front doors.  flashy.  limos.  paparazzi.  the audience was filled with hollywood celeb's, movers & shakers, beautiful people, the so-called "a-list" folks.  media and most elected officials up high in the gallery and seated in the front row was steven spielberg and his wife...

were you impressed?  *yawn*

staying in the house Reagan built

so i guess it's going to come down to this:  mccain or romney.

mcain is and always will be an american hero because of his vietnam experience however, as a politician, he has been incredibly unreliable to upholding conservative principles.  some call him a "maverick".  loose cannon is more accurate when you look at the issues in his career that he took a "maverick" stand on:  tax cuts, campaign finance reform, immigration, gang-of-14...  he even has that "open borders" guy, Dr. Juan Hernandez, on his team as a "hispanic outreach" advisor for gosh sakes.  he has, however, been stellar on the War on Terror.

i have a conservative discomfort with romney.  though i believe that positions on issues -- especially life -- change (it did with ronald reagan), i worry that romney's change of heart is simply convenient rather then sincere and trustworthy *coughflipflopcough*.  i do however believe he is a fiscal conservative and has a conservative view point on the War on Terror.  and he is certainly more conservative then mccain.

it's crunch time for conservatives.  with huckabee and paul basically marginalized, we conservatives must either rally to romney or we reconcile ourselves to mccain and all that means.
